India Ultimate's Coaching Development Programme — why to coach, who can coach, and the values behind it.
Coaching at India Ultimate
Coaching Development Programme
The philosophy of India Ultimate's Coaching Development Programme (CDP) is designed to give coaches a solid foundation from which they can grow and excel, giving their players a fun, safe and positive experience. The CDP promotes the idea of the transformational coach as a leader who inspires others to become self-directed and motivated, putting the collective goals and needs of the team ahead of individual interests.
Why Coach?
A Meaningful Impact
The benefits of coaching positively impact coaches and athletes alike. For coaches, it's challenging and rewarding, and leads to real personal development. It's an opportunity to become part of the Ultimate community, or stay connected to the sport in a meaningful way. Coaching is critical to the growth of Ultimate — particularly at the youth and grassroots levels. For the athlete, coaches don't just teach skills, drills, tactics and strategy — they can also have a significant, positive effect on players' lives off the field, often serving as role models and mentors.
Who Can Coach?
No Experience Necessary
A coach doesn't have to be a former or elite Ultimate player. They can be anyone who wants to share their love of the sport with others — someone who can communicate and connect with people, build relationships based on trust and respect, and create a positive learning environment. Parents, teachers, students, and even coaches of other sports make natural Ultimate coaches. It's simple enough to learn the basic rules of the game in order to introduce and teach it to beginners.
Our Core Coaching Values
